Monday, June 25, 2007, 03:19 PM

A match made in Heaven?

After meeting with the David Crowder Band on Thursday June 21st, Pro Co is proud to announce a "new" relationship with the successful group. "New" because the band has been a champion for Pro Co in use of cables, RATs, and direct boxes for quite some time.

Future projects will include an overhaul of DC*B's recording studio, and a self contained monitor system for the road. The monitor system will be powered by Momentum, Pro Co's digital snake system. Check out the all "Ears"section of the site to see what they will be using to get a monitor mix they can control themselves!

Both print and E-Media will be used for marketing, and will feature the whole band.

Everyone at Pro Co would like to thank the David Crowder Band for coming aboard!

Kalamazoo Business Sets the Stage for Audio World

Kalamazoo Business Sets the Stage for Audio World

As economists lament about Michigan’s bleak economy, one Michigan business can boast growth in the double digits for each of the last several years, with sales of more than $12 million last year alone. For nearly 33 years, Kalamazoo-based Pro Co Sound has been an audio industry staple selling hundreds of millions of dollars in audio interface products found in over 60 countries. Pro Co’s products are most likely used by your favorite musicians, bands, arenas, theaters and churches.
Since 1974, Charlie Wicks, founder of Pro Co has worked to stay ahead of the game by offering his customer’s cutting-edge technology partnered with competitive prices, despite facing competition from low-cost manufacturers overseas.
For Wicks, a musician and former school teacher, his love of music prompted him to launch Pro Co Sound with his first products primarily public address systems. Pro Co’s catalog now features more than 1600 products, many of which are one-of-a-kind. As the product line grew, so did the number of employees from four people, building speaker cabinets in a garage and soldering at a kitchen table, to more than one hundred employees today. In this time of layoffs and job cuts Pro Co Sound is creating jobs in Michigan.
“We have grown our product range, but at the same time we’ve controlled our staffing which forces us to improve our methods, keeping our costs low and resulting in fair prices for our customers,” Wicks said. This practice of evolving the workforce has kept Pro Co moving forward and growing.
Pro Co unveiled their newest product this spring, the Momentum Digital Snake System at the 2007 NSCA Expo in Orlando, and thus set a new standard for the audio industry. The Momentum System allows venues such as churches and arenas, a new option for routing sound from several different areas or sources. Prior to Momentum, facilities such as a church would have miles of cables coming from different areas of the facility to the sound board, encased in cumbersome and expensive piping. Now with the Momentum System the sound can be run digitally through thin computer wires, allowing easy set-up and flexibility. Pro Co is the first to offer such versatility to the audio industry and expects sales to jump once the system becomes available starting later in June.

Stardate 03.28.07 From Analog to CAT-lyst to Momentum!
Wednesday, March 28, 2007, 03:55 PM
Since 1979, Pro Co has been a plumber to the audio trades. Beginning about five years ago, our contractors started asking us to get soldering out of the field. Soldering is tremendously time-consuming, and the base of skilled craftsmen that do it is shrinking and getting more costly. The resulting copper backbone ends up being very expensive, especially when we add in the cost of the 3”– 4” conduit required by local building codes to enclose the audio cabling from one point to another. It’s almost totally inflexible, and a dead-end street if the facility needs to be added-on to, enlarged or relocated. It was the best the old school had to offer.

CAT-alyst began life as a solution to in-field soldering, designed to eliminate 95% of all audio wiring on any performance stage. CAT-alyst, as it turns out, wasn't the answer. However it was the path!

Why move from CAT-alyst to Momentum?

CAT-alyst does everything we hoped it would do. As our first entry into the digital snake market, it provided installers with an easier way to wire the audio portion of the sound system, cutting huge material and labor costs out of their installations.

CAT-alyst had two major flaws. It was costly and it was too complicated (because of its almost infinite flexibility) for the end user to ever feel comfortable learning to use it.

Momentum, our second generation digital snake, was much better thought out. It is about 30% less costly than CAT-alyst, depending on its configuration. There is little to no training involved (although some explanation of routing is necessary). It is also expandable from 8 channels to 256 channels in groups of 8 channels.

Momentum also runs at 100Mbps or Gigabit (10 times faster than 100Mbps), and runs on CAT5e, CAT6 or fiber optic cables. As simple as CAT-alyst was to install, Momentum is much easier.

Momentum is the answer. Actually, Momentum makes the answer YES!
Is it expandable? YES!
Is it flexible? YES!
Does it work with Cobranet? Can I use Phoenix connectors? What about Fiber? YES! YES!! YES!!!

Momentum is the second generation Digital Snake System that creates possibilities not problems. With all the options, flexibility and expandability Momentum can not only be the “answer”, it can make the “answer” YES!
